When did Canada declare war on Germany (WW2)? Why was it significant?
September 10, 1939, marking its first independent declaration of war, which demonstrated Canada's growing autonomy and identity separate from Britain.
How many Indigenous peoples fought for Canada overseas? Why was this significant?
Over 3,000, it was significant because they still lacked many basic human rights, and they fought for the country doing it to them.
Womens importance in WW2:
Serving in the military, and workforce. Their involvement marked a significant shift in gender roles and laid the groundwork for future advancements in women's rights.
Why did the civilians in Canada trust the government as compared to WW1?
Unlike WW1, they were promised Social Safety Net (family allowance for families with kids).
What is the Ogdensberg Agreement?
1940- Canada and U.S. made the Permanent Joint Board on Defence which coordinated self defence with U.S., instead of relying mainly Britian.
What is the Hyde Park Declaration?
1941- A declaration that made buying parts from U.S. to build equipment for Britian.
