First Amendment

Media Literacy
The ability to critically analyze media texts, understanding their construction, commercial implications, and social/political influence.
Cognitive Bias
A systematic pattern of deviation from norm or rationality in judgment, affecting how we perceive media and information.
Mudslinging
A type of media bias involving unfair or insulting remarks about someone to damage their reputation.
Slant
A type of media bias where only part of a story is told, highlighting specific angles to favor one side.
Sensationalism
A media bias in which information is presented in a dramatic manner to provoke strong emotions, often at the cost of accuracy.
Bias by Omission
A media bias that occurs when important information is excluded, leading to a one-sided perspective.
Unsubstantiated Claims
Statements made in reporting without evidence to support them, which indicates potential media bias.
