The branch in SA that has dominated since 1994 and won all 7 post-Apartheid elections between 1994 and 2024.

Owners of the biggest business empire in SA who received state contracts from Zuma and gave top positions to members of Zuma's family.

A period noted for corruption where state contracts were given to the Supta family business empire.

A party mechanism where a rebel may be placed lower on the Party's list for the next National Assembly (NA) election.
One-party state
A term describing the ANC governing 6 of 9 provincial legislatures with a majority since 1994, though their vote fell from 57.5% in 2019 to 40.2% in 2024.
DA
The coalition partner that threatened to quit the government if a tax bill passed, forcing the ANC to do a U-turn on the plan.
Constitutional Court
A body made of 11 judges independent from the government that can scrutinise bills and block them if deemed unconstitutional.
