Molecular Formula
The formula that shows the number and type of different atoms in one molecule of a compound.
Empirical Formula
The simplest whole number ratio of different atoms in a molecule.
Binary Ionic Compound
A compound consisting of exactly two different elements, usually containing a metal cation and a non-metal anion.
Stoichiometry
The calculation of reactants and products in chemical reactions based on a balanced chemical equation.
Avogadro's Number
The number of particles in one mole of a substance, approximately 6.022imes1023.
Mole
The amount of substance containing Avogadro's number of particles.
Stoichiometric Coefficient
The numerical factor in front of a compound in a balanced chemical equation that indicates the ratio of moles.
Chemical Equation
A symbolic representation of a chemical reaction, showing the reactants and products.
Empirical Mass
The mass of the simplest whole number ratio of atoms in a compound.
Molar Mass
The mass of one mole of a substance, usually expressed in grams per mole.
