What does Meiosis produce
Sex cells that creates 4 distinct gametes through two rounds of cell division, reducing the chromosome number by half.
What does Ploidy mean?
Number of Genomes in a cell, Haploid is 1 Copy, Diploid is 2 copies
Whats a Genome
DNA found in an organism
What happens in Meiosis 1
PMAT, Prophase 1, Chromosomes do recombination, Anaphase 1, Homologus Chromatids align at center, Metaphase, Spindles pull chromatids on each side, Telophase 1, chromatids at end of cell, nucleus forms around them
What happens in Meiosis 2
Same thing as Mitosis, this time 4 haploid cells are made
Trisomy
3 copies of one of chromsome
Non-disjunction
homologus chromatids don’t seperate during anaphase 1 of meiosis
What does Mitosis do
make cells for growth, repair, and asexual reproduction and 2 daughter cells
how many chromosomes do humans have?
46 chromosomes, 32 from Mom 32 from Dad
