they can stifle genuine worship, too structured
what is prayer
communication with God. A means of developing a personal relationship with God
explain the four components of prayer
Adoration - Praising God for what he is
confession - prayers apologising for sins and asking for Gods forgiveness,
thanksgiving - prayers thanking God
supplication - prayers asking for Gods help
why is it important to pray
having this personal relationship with God can provide comfort to Christians
believe God is listening
believe he may send a signal back
Explain 2 contrasting examples of Christian worship
One example of Christian worship is liturgical worship this usually follows a set order/ pattern with a structure to the service and example of this is RCC who perform Mass
Another example is informal worship, this is usually seen as more charismatic as it often features hymns, sermons, readings etc with a freer style and a more relaxed and lively vibe and example of a denomination that follows this is Evangelicalism
2 agree points - āThe Lordās prayer is the only prayer Christians need to useā
It contains all components of prayer (ACTS) for example when it says āhallowed be thy nameā it is an example of adoration or āforgive us our sinsā is an example of confession
This is the prayer that Jesus tells his followers to use, we know Jesus is divine and therefore perfect meaning this must be a perfect prayer (āwhen you pray say:ā Luke 11)
It encourages Christians to forgive others and treat them with kindness which we know is a key belief (āAs we forgive them that trespass against usā)
Universally applicable to everyone and all denominations and shows Godās love is for everyone, important because we are all āimago deiā
2 disagree points - āThe Lordās prayer is the only prayer Christians need to useā
Other forms of prayer can also be used. e.g. informal prayer may be silent and have personal reflection
prayer is personal so it can be done in any way, Jesus used different forms of prayer
It can be seen as less heartfelt and meaningful to only use 1 prayer, evangelical denomination ( informal ) say it can become āvain repetitionā
Only prayers to the father those who believe in trinity may find it insufficient and want to use other prayers such as apostles creed which also says āand in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord... I believe in the Holy Spirit...".
God cares more about the meaning behind the words rather than the authority or exact words
what is a sacrament
a ceremony through which Christians believe they receive Godās grace and become closer to him
what churches perform 7 sacraments

What is marriage

What is reconciliation

then you have penance e.g. a form of atonement
what is eucharist

eating the bread and the wine, a spiritual feeding w/ Jesusā blood and body
What is Baptism
makes entry to Godās Kingdom possible
official entry to church
removal of OG sin
welcoming into Gods family
what is worship
any act that shows devotion or love for God
2 agree points - āLiturgical worship is more important than non-liturgicalā
RRC will say yes - Mass is a form of liturgical worship and is very important as Christians receive the body and blood of Christ
Bible readings and sermons provide an opportunity to learn more about the faith
Unites Christians as it is a worldwide set that is familiar to all
2 disagree points - āLiturgical worship is more important than non-liturgicalā
Non-liturgical worship could be seen as having more meaning as its less scripted, bigger emotional impact so they can connect to God on a deeper more personal level
More inclusive, anyone can participate and have an active role, for Baptists there is no set leader
2 agree points - āPublic worship is more important than private worshipā
Public worship is unlikely to become selfish as you are following set prayers that follow ACTS
Jesus shows us the importance of public worship in the last supper
God is present in public worship āFor where two or three gather in my name, there i am with themā - brings a community together
opportunity to receive the sacraments and thus become closer to God and obtain salvation
2 disagree points - āPublic worship is more important than private worshipā
You can praise God and ask for specific things, more meaningful
connect to God on a more personal level and thus show more love to him ālove the lord with all your heart and all your soulā
Jesus often prayed alone in the Garden of Gethsemane, told his disciples to do them same as God is immanent and will see their worship
After the pandemic the importance of private worship was shown
āclose the door and pray to your fatherā - prayer is not about attention
āWhatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received itā - God will always be there when you pray no matter what type of prayer it
what 3 events happened after Jesus was baptised
Heaven was opened to him
The Holy Spirit watched him as a dove
God the Father spoke to him as his son
Why is Baptism significant in Christianity, give 3 reasons

Enforces belief in the afterlife and heaven
shows us humanity of Jesus, fully God + Human
Rite of initiation into the Christian community
Cleansing of OG sin
describe Jesusā baptism

when he rose heaven opened to him
The Holy spirit appeared to him in the form of a dove
God the Father spoke to him as his son
Why did Jesusā disciples carry out Baptism
Jesusā baptism was just before his ascension
He told his disciples before "to āGo and make disciples of the nationā
gives them approval to spread his teachings to new followers, including religious sacraments like Baptism
What are the 7 gifts of the holy spirit
Reverence
Wonder and Awe
understanding
wisdom
right judgement/ council
courage/ fortitude
knowledge
explain 2 points about infant baptism
It means the child can recieve the other sacraments as soon as possible, and become closer to God and form a deeper more personal connection
Can be a comfort to parents to know that their ill child is part of the community before death
parents reject evil for the child and promise to bring the child up in Christian form
In line with Christian traditions as it has been done for hundreds of years
explain 2 points about believers baptism
It means that only those old enough and that are truly and fully committed to making the choice participate, Babies donāt have that choice
Jesus himself was baptised as an adult and his Baptism was one of the most important events in the Bible
How can you cleanse sin from a baby? havenāt had the chance to go against Godās law yet, many see it as a useless practice that only names a child
what is Eucharist also known as
Holy communion
How do quakers celebrate eucharist
service begins hymns, prayers, readings and sermons
communion is on a table
anyone can do communion
non-alcoholic wine, loaf of bread used
consume the bread at the same time, to show their all equal
how roman catholic church celebrate eucharist
