Wind Correction Angle
The adjustment made to the aircraft's heading to account for the wind's effect on the intended flight path.
True Heading
The actual heading of an aircraft corrected for wind effects to maintain the intended flight path.
Magnetic Variation
The difference between true north (the North Pole) and magnetic north (the direction a compass points) at a specific location.
Isogonic Line
A line connecting points of equal magnetic variation on a map.
Ergonic Line
A line where there is zero degrees difference between magnetic north and true north.
Dead Reckoning
Navigation based on calculations of airspeed, course, heading, wind direction, ground speed, and elapsed time.
Pilotage
Navigating by visual reference to landmarks or using sectional charts.
Radio Navigation
Determining position and maintaining a desired course using radio navigation aids.
Density Altitude
The altitude at which the air density is the same as the standard atmosphere, affecting aircraft lift performance.
Ground Speed
The speed of an aircraft relative to the ground, which can be affected by wind.
True Airspeed
Actual speed of an aircraft relative to the surrounding air.
Nautical Mile
A unit of measure used in aviation, equaling one minute of latitude, approximately 1.15 statute miles.
Zulu Time
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), used in aviation to standardize time across different time zones.
