Tone
The speaker's attitude and/or feelings toward the subject or audience as it is expressed throughout the text. It is communicated as an emotion word, and can be accentuated by a speaker's vocal intonation & body language. It is also set to be a means of accomplishing a rhetorical purpose.
It is communicated through connotative language and sentence structures that infuse their words with feelings, ideas, and/or associations that serve to persuade the audience by influencing their own feelings on the topic in question.
Denotation
The literal and/or 'dictionary' meaning/definition of a word.
Connotation
The idea/feeling that a word invokes along with its literal meaning.
Diction
The specific word choice used within a text that are shaped by how clear, concrete, and exact they are. It is never the entire sentence.
Syntax
All of the different sentence types, lengths, and structures within a text.
Imagery
Descriptive words and/or phrases that paint a sensory picture of a certain situation.
Detail
Facts revealed by the speaker that supports the attitude or imagery in their work.
Short Sentences
Can imply simplicity, urgency, or bluntness.
Long Sentences
Can emphasise the complexity of a situation or argument and imply sophistication and/or formality.
Positive Connotation
Utilizing words and phrases to create good feelings from the audience.
Negative Connotation
Utilizing words and phrases to create bad feelings from the audience.
Declarative Sentence
A sentence that makes a statement, clear point, and/or declaration.
Exclamatory Sentence
A sentence that conveys excitement or force.
Interrogative Sentence
A sentence that asks a certain question.
Imperative Sentence
A sentence that demands, requests, or commands someone to do something.
