Driver

A piece of software that allows the operating system to communicate with hardware components.

Hardware Compatibility List - HCL

A list of hardware devices and systems that are tested and confirmed to be compatible with a specific operating system version.

Hyper-V

Microsoft’s virtualization platform used to create and manage virtual machines.

Local Administrator

A user account with full system-level privileges on a local machine, often used during installation and configuration.

Original Equipment Manufacturer - OEM

A company that builds and sells computers with pre-installed operating systems

System File Checker - SFC

A command-line utility used to scan and restore corrupted Windows system files.

Trusted Platform Module - TPM

A hardware component used to securely store cryptographic keys and ensure hardware-based security functions

Universal Serial Bus - USB

A standard interface used to connect external devices such as keyboards, storage drives, and printers to a computer

Windows Hello for Business

A Microsoft authentication system that uses biometrics or PINs instead of passwords for secure login.

Windows Sandbox

A lightweight virtual environment that allows users to safely run untrusted applications without affecting the host system.

Windows Setup

The process that installs and configures the Windows operating system on a machine, either manually or through automation.
