Health Disparities
Systematic differences in health outcomes that are closely linked to social or economic disadvantage.
Structural Violence
Harm caused by social structures embedded in institutions, historically produced, leading to premature death.
Health Inequity
Unnecessary, avoidable, and unfair differences in health status.
Maternal Mortality
The number of women who die from pregnancy-related causes per 100,000 live births.
Communicable Disease
A disease that is transmitted between individuals or from animals to humans, such as TB and HIV.
Burden of Disease
The impact of a health problem measured by financial cost, mortality, morbidity, or other indicators.
Emerging Infectious Diseases
Diseases that have newly appeared in a population or are increasing in incidence or geographic range.
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
A group of diseases affecting over 1 billion people worldwide that receive less attention and funding.
Gender-based Violence
Violence directed at an individual based on their gender, often resulting in physical, sexual, or psychological harm.
Syndemic
Interactions between multiple diseases that increase severity and risk, driven by structural conditions.
