Sagittal Plane
A section made parallel to the body’s longitudinal axis. It divides the body into right and left parts. Sagittal = Side-to-side split
Midsagittal (Median) Plane
A sagittal plane that divides the body into equal right and left halves.
Parasagittal Plane
A sagittal plane that divides the body into unequal right and left portions.
Frontal (Coronal) Plane
A section made parallel to the body’s longitudinal axis that divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) parts. Frontal = Front/back split

Transverse (Cross-Sectional) Plane
A section made perpendicular to the body’s longitudinal axis that divides the body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) parts. Transverse = Top/bottom split
Oblique Plane
A section that passes through the body or body part at an angle rather than straight across. Oblique = Angled cut
