Why was the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) created?
The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) was created to define the rights and responsibilities of nations in the use of international waters, established territorial seas, and exclusive economic zones. Although this is in place, one of the long-lasting disputes over boundaries is over the South China Sea.
Internal boundaries
Internal boundaries can determine state lines or country and regional divisions.
For example, the United States has boundaries dividing each state within the country.
One of the primary functions of internal boundaries is for voting purposes.
