Jesus
Son of God and the Messiah.
Jesus of Nazareth
Taught people not to fight back but to seek forgiveness for their sins in preparation for God’s judgement day.
Apostles
12 disciples Jesus chose to spread his message that everyone can achieve salvation–forgiveness of sins and a life in heaven after death.
Bishop
Oversaw church affairs in most cities. Had authority over all the priests within the cities.
Disciples
Jesus’s followers.
Martyrs
As Christianity spread through Rome, some local officials feared that Christians were plotting against them. Many Christians were arrested and killed. Those killed were seen as Martyrs, people who died because they believed in Christianity and inspired others to as well.
Eucharist
A ceremony where Christians drink wine and eat bread as a remembrance of Jesus’ death and Resurrection and to represent Jesus’ last meal with his disciples.
Popes
Peter the apostle founded the Roman Church and God gave him the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Popes are descendants of Peter that inherent the keys. Control all Christian churches.
Edict of Milan
Emperor Constantine, before a battle, had a vision of a cross of light with the words “In this sign, conquer”. After winning the battle he supported Christianity and created the Edict that made Christianity legal in the Roman empire.
Christian Bible
Made up of the first 4 books of The New Testament and the Hebrew Bible.
