Chemical reactions
Processes in which new substances with new properties are formed through chemical changes and the rearrangement of atoms.
Reactants
The substances which take part in a chemical reaction.
Products
The new substances produced as a result of a chemical reaction.
Magnesium metal
A silvery-white metal available in a science laboratory in the form of a magnesium ribbon or magnesium wire.
Magnesium oxide
A white powder produced when magnesium ribbon burns in air and combines with oxygen.
Reaction of Magnesium and Oxygen
Magnesium (As ribbon)+Oxygen (From air)→Magnesium oxide (White powder)
Dazzling white flame
The type of flame produced when a magnesium ribbon is heated and burns in air.
Sand paper
A material used to clean the magnesium ribbon before burning to remove the protective layer of magnesium oxide from its surface.
