What is Pharmacy?
A branch of medical science dealing with preparation, dispensing, and proper use of medicines.
Role of a Pharmacist
Dispense medicines, check prescriptions, guide patients, maintain drug storage.
Drug vs Medicine
A drug is a chemical substance; a medicine is a prepared form used to treat disease.
Prescription
Written order from a doctor specifying medicines, dose, and duration.
OTC Drugs
Medicines that can be purchased without a doctor's prescription.
Antibiotics
Drugs that kill or stop growth of bacteria (e.g., Amoxicillin, Azithromycin).
Analgesics
Medicines used to relieve pain (e.g., Paracetamol, Ibuprofen).
Antacids
Drugs used to reduce stomach acidity (e.g., Omeprazole, Pantoprazole).
Antihistamines
Medicines used to treat allergies (e.g., Cetirizine, Loratadine).
Side Effects
Unwanted effects caused by medicines (e.g., nausea, dizziness).
Schedule H Drugs
Medicines that require a doctor's prescription.
Schedule X Drugs
Controlled drugs with strict storage and record rules.
Drug Interaction
When one medicine affects the action of another.
Dose
Amount of medicine given at one time.
Dosage
Amount of medicine and how often it should be taken.
Steroids
A broad group of hormone-like substances in the body.
Corticosteroids
Steroids that reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system (e.g., Prednisolone, Dexamethasone).
Anabolic Steroids
Synthetic drugs similar to testosterone that increase muscle growth (e.g., Nandrolone, Oxandrolone).
