Why should you give a limited number of directions when telling a child to do something?

Toddlers and preschoolers have a very short attention span. If you tell your child to do more than one thing, they might not be able to remember all of the instructions, by giving one direction at a time, and making sure that the directions are clear. The child is more likely to remember and follow the direction. And you can praise that child more often.
