most popular minister of his day, created the first megachurch in Manhattan (10,000 people regularly attending services). Very loud and charismatic, coined the phrase “burned over district,” and was the first to publish sermons in a newspaper.

Jarena Lee

female minister, argued that women could be ministers after she heard a message that called her to ministry. Said that everyone should have a personal connection with God and God intervenes directly in people’s lives.

Joseph Smith

Founder of the Mormon church, said God sent him a vision of golden plates with scripture on them. He is eventually brutally murdered.

Brigham Young

Has a vision after Joseph Smith dies and leads the Mormons the rest of the way to Salt Lake City, Utah.
