Four Fire Arm Safety Rules

• all guns are always loaded

• never allow the muzzle to cover anything that you are not willing to shoot

• keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are aligned on the target and you intend to shoot

• be sure of your target

reasonable suspicion

specific articulable facts that a crime has occurred, will occur, or is occurring, and the person to be detained is somehow connected to that criminal activity

Consensual Encounter

face to face encounter where a reasonable person feels free to leave at any time

Probable Cause

a set of facts, honest and strong belief that the person arrested is guilty of a crime

Use of Deadly Force

• to defend against an imminent threat of death or seriously bodily injury to the officers or to another persons

• to apprehend a fleeing person for any felony that threatened or resulted in death or serious bodily injury, and the officer believes the person will cause serious death or bodily injury unless immediately apprehended

When can you conduct a search under detention?

if you can articulate that a person is armed and/or dangerous, you can conduct a cursory frisk, pat down search
