Albuterol Class

Sympathomimetic bronchodilator

Albuterol Description

Causes bronchodialation with less cardiac effect than epinephrine

Albuterol Indications

Bronchospasm and asthma in COPD

Albuterol Contradictions

Hypersensitivity, history of cardiac disease, heart rate >150 for adults or >200 in kids

Albuterol Dosage

2.5 - 5 mg (3cc) vis nebulizer. x3 dose

Unconscious, known diabetic who has not taken insulin for days, patient who can’t swallow

Ibuprofen Class

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)

Ibuprofen Description

Inhibits platelet aggression and increases bleeding time

Ibuprofen Indications

Reduce fever and relieve pain

Ibuprofen Contradictions

History of GI bleeding, renal insufficiency, patients on anticoagulation agents like Coumadin

Adults 400-800 mg, Child 10mg/kg

Nitroglycerin Class

Nitrate

Nitroglycerin Description

Relaxes blood vessels, decreased workload of heart

Nitroglycerin Indications

Chest pain associated with angina or acute myocardial infraction

Nitroglycerin Contradictions

Tolerance to nitrates, severe anemia, head trauma, BP under 100 mmHg, patients on ED medication

Nitroglycerin Dose

1 tablet every 5 min until pain free or 3 doses
