What is a septal defect?
It involves the opening where it allows the oxygen-rich blood and oxygen-poor blood to mix which lead to issues like abnormal heart rhythms, stroke and even heart failure
Interatrial septum
A thin muscular structure that consists of two parts (fossa ovalis and the limbus of the fossa ovalis)
It separates the right and left atria
Explain Atrial septal defect
A congenital heart defect where there is an abnormal opening in the interatrial septum, allowing blood to flow between the two atria
Interventricular septum
Thick muscular wall that consists of two parts (a membranous and muscular portion)
Separates the right and left ventricles
Ventricular septal defect
A congenital defect where there is one or more holes in the interventricular septum allowing blood to mix between the ventricles
