Minor Calyx
is a cup-shaped structure in the kidney that collects urine from the renal papillae and channels it into the major calyx.
Renal Artery
a blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the kidneys, supplying them with essential nutrients and oxygen for filtration.
Renal Vein
a blood vessel that carries deoxygenated blood away from the kidneys and back to the heart, removing waste products filtered from the blood.
Segmental artery
is a branch of the renal artery that further divides to supply blood to specific segments of the kidney for filtration and oxygenation.
Ureter
a tube that carries urine from each kidney to the bladder for storage before excretion.
Renal Column
tissue in the kidney between renal pyramids that contains vessels and nephrons for filtering blood.
Renal Pyramid
triangular-shaped structures in the kidney that contain nephrons and collect urine before it drains into the renal pelvis.
Kidney Pelvis
the funnel-shaped structure in the kidney that collects urine from the renal pyramids and directs it into the ureter for transport to the bladder.
Fibrous Capsule
the outer protective layer surrounding the kidney that provides structural support and helps maintain kidney shape.
Renal Cortex
the outer portion of the kidney that contains the glomeruli and renal tubules, playing a crucial role in filtering blood and forming urine.
Cortical Radiate Arteries
the arteries that branch from the arcuate arteries and supply blood to the renal cortex, aiding in the perfusion of this kidney region.
Arcuate Arteries
Vessels that collect blood from the cortical radiate veins and transport it to the renal veins, helping in draining blood from the kidney.
Interlobar
veins that run between the renal pyramids, draining blood from the arcuate veins and directing it toward the renal veins.
