First Aid for Substance Abuse/Misuse
The protocol is the same as the first aid for poisoning.
Overdose
A form of poisoning.
Emergency Action for Substance Abuse
Call 911 or Poison Control based on whether the victim is conscious, unconscious, or in a life-threatening condition.
Victim Assessment Questions
Four critical questions to answer for responders: 1. What was the substance? 2. Quantity? 3. Time passed? 4. Body weight of victim?
Naloxone
A substance or treatment used in overdose response, referenced on pages 90-92.
Alcohol Poisoning
A specific condition related to substance overdose discussed on page 143.
Substance Resource Identification Points
Review categories of commonly abused/misused substances, the substances in those categories, and the effects of those substances.
