Orbit
The bone structure that encases the eye socket.
Frontal Bone
The bone forming the upper half of the eye socket; also known as the forehead bone.
Myopia
A vision condition where near objects are seen clearly, but distant objects are blurry (nearsightedness).
Hyperopia
A vision condition where distant objects are seen clearly, but near objects are blurry (farsightedness).
Nystagmus
Involuntary eye movement characterized by rapid eye movements.
Conjunctivitis
Inflammation of the conjunctiva, commonly known as pink eye.
Corneal Abrasion
A scratch on the cornea of the eye, often painful and symptomatic of foreign body irritation.
Retinal Detachment
A condition in which the retina detaches from the back of the eye, requiring urgent medical attention.
Ruptured Globe
A severe eye injury characterized by the rupture of the eye leading to loss of vision.
TMJ
Temporomandibular joint, connecting the jawbone to the skull, often implicated in jaw dysfunction and pain.
Coup vs Counter Coup
Coup refers to an injury on the same side as the impact; counter coup describes an injury on the opposite side.
Epidural Hematoma
Bleeding between the skull and the dura mater, typically resulting from arterial injury.
Subdural Hematoma
Bleeding beneath the dura mater, typically resulting from venous injury and may occur more slowly.
PEARL
An acronym for Pupil Equal And Reactive to Light, an indicator of head injuries.
