Indira Gandhi
First female Prime Minister of India (1966-1977, 1980-1984). Centralized power, led India through the 1971 war with Pakistan, and declared the 21-month State of Emergency.
Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha)

Tamerlane (Timur)
Turco-Mongol conqueror who founded the Timurid Empire. Invaded and sacked Delhi in 1398, severely weakening the Delhi Sultanate.
Robert Clive
British officer and first British Governor of the Bengal Presidency. Secured British military and political supremacy in India at the Battle of Plassey (1757).
Nehru
First Prime Minister of independent India (1947-1964). Shaped the nation into a modern secular republic and was a leader of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Akbar (The Great)
Third Mughal Emperor who vastly expanded the empire. Known for policy of religious tolerance, administrative reforms, and creating the syncretic faith Din-i-Ilahi.
Asoka
Mauryan Emperor who converted to Buddhism after the bloody Kalinga War. Spread Buddhist principles across Asia using rock and pillar edicts.
Mohandas Gandhi
Leader of India's non-violent independence movement against British rule. Pioneered Satyagraha (civil disobedience) and is honored as the 'Father of the Nation.'
Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Lawyer, politician, and founder of Pakistan. Served as the leader of the All-India Muslim League and became Pakistan's first Governor-General.
Alexander the Great
King of Macedon who invaded northwestern India in 326 BCE. Fought King Porus at the Battle of the Hydaspes before his army mutinied and turned back.
Babur
Founder and first Emperor of the Mughal Dynasty in India (1526). Defeated Ibrahim Lodi at the First Battle of Panipat using gunpowder and artillery.
Chandragupta I
Ruler of the Gupta Empire (320–335 CE) who is considered its first major king. Greatly expanded his territory through his strategic marriage to the Licchavi princess Kumaradevi, launching the Gupta Golden Age.\n\n
