Scottish Alliance

The Scots allied with the King in The Engagement, aiming to restore him to the throne, establish Presbyterianism in England, and suppress religious sectarianism, which ultimately backfired as it united the Presbyterians and Independents against the Royalist cause, leading to the outbreak of the Second Civil War.
