Germinal Period

The first 14 days. Conception to implantation and is characterized by rapid cell division and differentiation.

Zygote

A single cell that forms when a sperm fertilizes an egg, marking the beginning of the germinal period.

Blastocyst

an inner and outer group of cells that form in the prenatal development period

Embryonic period

3 weeks - 8 weeks. During this time, organ systems begin to develop, and the foundations for the body's structure are established.
