Changes in society’s values, attitudes, behaviours and way of life over time
What happens in social change?
Government often has to develop new laws and policies tom deal with new issues and new concerns
Describe the Demographic change: post WW2
Post WW2 migration led to a more multicultural society. This resulted in traditional norms (languages) values (British identity) and mores (racial separation) got challenged and seen as unacceptable. A new law was needed
What years did the race relation act take place and what was it?
1965- racial discrimination illegal
1968- strengthened law to cover housing
1976- take cases to court
What was the public perception of dangerous dogs?
Moral panic was caused by media about changing norms of dog ownership, after dog attacks some breeds were seen as deviant and a threat to safety
Wha year was the dangerous dog act implemented and what was it?
1991- banned certain breeds and made owners legally responsible
What was the cultural change of of homosexuality?
Traditional norms saw it as deviant and immoral and so it was criminalised however culture changed so we now value diversity, equality and norms are different
What year was the sexual offences act implemented and what was it?
1967- decriminalised homosexuality in private
2013- marriage act allowed same sex marriages
