Levodopa
MOA: Taken up by dopamine neurons and converted to dopamine. Use: Parkinson's disease. SE: Movement disorders from excess dopamine.
Carbidopa
MOA: Structural analog to levodopa; reduces peripheral conversion of levodopa to dopamine, increasing CNS levodopa availability. Use: Adjunct to levodopa in Parkinson's. SE: Reduces GI and cardiovascular side effects of levodopa.
Bromocriptine
MOA: D2 receptor agonist and D1 receptor antagonist. Use: Adjunct to levodopa in advanced Parkinson's. SE: N/A.
Ropinirole
MOA: D2 receptor agonist. Use: Early Parkinson's; restless leg syndrome. SE: N/A.
Benztropine
MOA: Anticholinergic. Use: Adjunctive treatment in Parkinson's (also used for EPS management). SE: Anticholinergic side effects.
Donepezil
MOA: Reversible cholinesterase inhibitor; increases acetylcholine in the CNS. Use: Alzheimer's disease. SE: N/A.
