Tell me about yourself

  • I am currently in my final year of a Biochemistry dergee where I’ve developed strong skills in handling and analysing complex datasets

  • Alongside my studies I have taken on various committee roles with the universities caving club which has given me valuable experience working within a team

  • I’m particullarly intrested in this role because hydrology modeling would allow me to utilise my data handling and technical problem solving skills with real world applications that benefit the environment

  • Even though my degree isn’t directly to do with hydrology I’m confident that my analytical skills , problem-solving approach, and ability to learn quickly would allow me to contribute effectively

What are your strengths?

  • One of my main strenghts is my work ethic and reliability

  • I’ve worked part-time jobs since I was 15 and also balanced my degree alongside working at Tesco

  • This has taught me strong time management and discipline

  • I’m also strong analytically. Through my biochemistry degree, I’ve become very comfortable working with complex data, identifying patterns, and solving problems methodically, which I knwo is important in modelling work

  • Fianlly I’d say I preform well under pressure. Through cave rescue and cave leadership roles I’ve had to stay calm, make decisions, and communicate clearly in situations where mistakes matter

What are your weaknesses?

  • One thing I’ve been working on is being ovelry thorough when reviewing my own work

  • I like to make sure things are accurate, especially when working with data, but sometimes that can mean I spend longer checking than I need to

  • Ive been improving this by setting clearer deadlines for myself and recognising when something is complete enough to move forward

  • Its helped me become more efficient while still maintaing a high standard

How do you prioritise your work?

  • I usually start by identifying what is most urgent and what wil have the biggest impact if delayed.

  • I lkke to break larger tasks into smaller steps so I can manage progress clearly and avoid missing deadlines

  • Balancing university, part-time work, and responsibilities in comitie roles has made me very organised.

  • Ive had to plan ahead, communicate clearly with others and stay flexible when priorities change unexpectedly

  • I find that staying structured early prevents problems later

How do you deal wih conflict in the workplace?

  • I think the most important thing is to deal with the conflict early and professionally rather than letting it build

  • I try to understand the other persons perspective first, because often conflict comes from iscommunication rather than actual disagreement

  • In team environments like cave rescue and comitie roles, Ive learned that clear communication and focusing on the shared goal usually resolves most issues quickly

  • I try to stay calm, avoid making things personal, and focus on finding the best soluton for the team rather than being ‘right’

Whats your preffered working environment?

  • I work best in an environment where communication is open and expectations are clear

  • I like being part of a team where people are approachable and willing to share knowledge, especially when learnig something new

  • At the same time, I enjoy having responsibility and being trusted to manage my own work. I think the best environment is one where there’s support avaliabel, but also the opportunity to take initiative and develop independance

What is your prefered leadership style?

  • I respond best to leadership that is clear, supportive, and colalborative.

  • I value managers who set clear expectations and give constructive feedback, but also trust people to take ownership of their work

  • From my own leadership roles, I’ve found that people preform best when they feel supported rather than micromanaged

  • I think good leadership creates confidence and accountability at the same time

Why should we hire you?

  • Altough Im entering the industry from a non-traditional background, I bring strong analytical skills, a proven work ethic, and the ability to learn quickly

  • Ive worked part-time since I was 15 while balancing education and other responsibilities

  • which has taught me discipline, reliability, and how to preform consistently under pressure

  • Combined with my computational expreience handling complex data through my degree and working in team-focoused environemnts like mountain rescue, I believe I have the right foundation to develop quickly into the role and contribute positively to the team

What is your expirience with technical/computational work?

  • I found that throught my degree I was particullarly drawn to the analytical and computational side of the work, which is why I chose a bioinformatics final year project.

  • This involved working in a linux environment using bash scripting and data analysis tools.

  • In a seperate module I preformed some statistical analsis on some biological data using R

  • I found that I really enjoyed the problem-solving aspect of working with large datasets and using computational methods to interpret results
