Molecule
The smallest physical unit of an element or compound.

Chemical Formula
A notation which represents the number and type of atoms
present in a molecule.

H2O
The chemical formula for the water molecule. A water molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Polarity
The uneven sharing of electrons in the water molecule, making the hydrogen end slightly positive and the oxygen end slightly negative.

Reflection
The bouncing of a light wave off a surface. Water has reflective properties.

Refraction
The bending of a wave of light as it passes through different
substances. Water has refractive properties.

Magnification
Increasing the apparent size of an object by the refraction of light.
