Momentum
Is the product of its mass and Velocity
vector quantity
Formula and Unit of Momentum
P = mv
unit of kg . m/s
Impulse
Interaction that changes the momentum
vector quantity
Formula and Unit of Impulse
I = FΔt
unit of N.s
Impulse-Momentum Theorem
when the objects slows down, or moves faster, its velocity decreases or increases. If there is a change in the velocity or the mass of an object, there is also a change in momentum. And that change of momentum is called IMPULSE.
Types of Collision
Elastic
Inelastic
Perfectly Inelastic
Elastic Collision
Both momentum and kinetic energy is conserved
Inelastic Collision
Momentum is conserved but kinetic energy is not
Perfectly Inelastic Collision
momentum is conserved but kinetic energy is not, and the two objects stick together after the collision, so their final velocities are the same.
