5 types of breathing emergencies
bronchitis
hyperventilation

when you notice someone choking, do the following 2 things
1)ask the person if they are choking and if you can help
2)call 911
when caring for choking, do the following 2 things for an adult:
1)perform 5 back blows with the heel of your hand in between the shoulder blades
2)perform 5 abdominal thrusts with a fist covered by your other hand above the person’s belly button
when caring for choking an infant, do the 2 following things:
1)perform 5 back blows with the heel of your hand in between the shoulder blades
2)perform 5 chest thrusts with the tips of your fingers 1 and a half inches deep
for both an adult/child and infant, keep performing back blows and abdominal/chest thrusts until one of the following 2 things happens:
1)the object is dislodged from the airway resulting in the person being able to talk/cry, cough, or breathe
2)the person becomes unresponsive
if a person becomes unresponsive, you should what?
begin CPR
If a person choking is overweight, in late stages of pregnancy, or in a wheelchair, and you can’t wrap your arms around them, how can you do thrusts?
do chest thrusts higher up on their body
if you are by yourself and choking, how can you help yourself?
1)perform abdominal thrusts on yourself
2)lean against an object and press you abdomen into it simulating abdominal thrusts
3)call 911 so a dispatcher can send help to your location
