Complementary events
Two events that are mutually exclusive and cover all possible outcomes of a trial, meaning one event occurs if and only if the other does not.
Mutially Exclusive
Events that cannot occur at the same time.
Intersection
When two events occur at the same time. This is denoted as A n B
Union
When both events occur. This is denoted as A u B
The union rule
P(A u B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A n B)
Independent events
Events where the outcome of one event does not effect the outcome of another event
Independent event equation
P(A n B) = P(A) * P(B)
Conditional probability
The probability of a second event occurring, given that the first event has already happened.
