Martin Heidegger
The philosopher who authored "The Question Concerning Technology" and proposed that the essence of technology is a mode of being or revealing.
Essence of technology
According to Heidegger, this is not something humans make, but rather a mode of being or of revealing.
Modern technology
A mode of revealing that functions by challenging nature and bringing forth energy through "expediting."
Standing in reserve
The technical word Heidegger uses to name the things that are revealed in modern technology.
Enframing
Considered by Heidegger to be the "essence" of modern technology.
Eudaimonia
A term for human flourishing associated with Plato and Aristotle, signifying a situation achieved through virtue, knowledge, and excellence.
Four Aspects of Human Nature
The categories through which all humans seek to flourish: physical, social, rational, and emotional.
Human Flourishing
The pursuit of goals that are rational for an individual and as a human being, involving the realization of talents, abilities, and virtues.
Living Rationally
Dealing with the world conceptually by externalizing values in accordance with logic, being sensible, and respecting the facts of reality.
Living Consciously
A component of living rationally that involves conceptually dealing with the world and externalizing values with respect to facts.
