Purpose of Patient Education

An internal state that drives individuals to seek knowledge or skills, often influenced by the perceived necessity or benefit of the information.
Learning Environment
The setting in which learning takes place, which should be conducive to concentration and focus.
Teaching as Communication
Teaching requires effective communication skills to relay information successfully to patients.
Joint Commission Speak Up Campaign
A campaign aimed at empowering patients to actively participate in their healthcare by asking questions and understanding their rights.
Evaluation of Learning Outcomes
Determining if the patient's expectations were met and assessing their retention of the information taught.
Documenting Education
