Why and when did China's Qing Dynasty decline and ultimatley collapse?
Internal changes and pressure from outside society is what caused the Qing Dynasty to collapse. The republic of China is announced. It is still very traditional, because its a Confucian society.
What was the Opium War?
The British v. Chinese. Britain beat China, the war started because the Chinese limited trade with the British. The war ends in a peace treaty, with this treaty, Britain gets more trading ports in China and they get the island of Hong Kong. British Citizens also get the privilege of being tried with British Law, rather than Chinese law.
What was the Taiping Rebellion and how did it impact China politically?
It was an unrest from politics, it led to a weakening of the Chinese Dynasty, Russia wanted to be involved in China.
Opium
The British used it for recreation and it was used by the Chinese for medicine.

Chinese leader of the Taiping Rebellion against the Qing Dynasty, he believed that he was the brother of Jesus Christ

What were Kang Youwei's plans for Chinese Reform?
Kang wants to modernize China's education, economy, military, and political system.
What was Cixi's response to Kang's attempt to modernize China?
Cixi sees this as a threat, she as the young emperor put under house arrest, Kang leaves China and all of the reforms end.
Open Door notes
Introduced in 1900 by John Hay (American). It was designed to give imperial powers equal access to China and their ports. It decreases competition between the Imperial powers.
What was the Boxer Rebellion?
a nationalist uprising against foreigners in China

He is the father of the Chinese Republic. he was the first president who was educated int he west. He is for democracy, nationalism and modernization. This government will fail due to lack of support.

Monarchy abolished and republic established/ Sun Yat-Sen president/ democracy, notional and economic prosperity

1854 treaty between Japan and the US. Japan agreed to open two ports to American ships
Meiji Restoration
The political program that followed the destruction of the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1868, in which a collection of young leaders set Japan on the path of centralization, industrialization, and imperialism.
