Ball peen hammer
a hammer with a rounded end opposite the face

Phillips screwdriver
A screwdriver that has a blade shaped like a cross; this blade fits into a cross-shaped Phillips screw head

Slotted screwdriver
used to turn slotted screws

Nippers
is a tool used to "nip" or remove small amounts of a hard material, such as pieces of a tile which needs to be fitted around an odd or irregular shape.

Linesman Pliers
Used for gripping small objects, to cut and bend wire and cable

Needle nose pliers
small pliers with long thin jaws for fine work

Vice grips (locking pliers)
"locking pliers," can lock onto things, pull out screws, can be used as mini clamps

Pipe cutter
a hand tool for cutting pipe

Wood chisel
A woodworking tool for cutting, shaping, or smoothing wood.

Matte knife
A tool that has a retractable blade for Hand Cutting and light material cutting.

Forstner Drill Bit
This bit is used on wood and is particularly good for boring any part of a circle.

Twist Bit
a bit or drill having deep helical grooves, Are the most commonly used tools for drilling holes in wood, metal and plastic

Crescent Wrench/Adjustable Wrench
a wrench designed to fit hexagonal nuts with the adjusting screw built into the head of the wrench

Jorgensen clamp
A Clamp that consists of two wooden jaws that are bevelled symmetrically on one end.

Palm sander, orbital sander
a sander that uses a section of sandpaper attached by velcro to a metal pad that moves at high speed in a very narrow orbit, driven by an electric motor.

Grinder
a machine with an abrasive disk for smoothing metal

Jigsaw
a light portable electric saw with a vertically reciprocating blade that is used especially for cutting curves

Circular saw
A portable saw with a circular adjustable blade with adjustable angle and cut depth. Used for straight line cross cutting as well as ripping of stock lumber and plywood.

Screw used where great pressure to turn is required

Hex bolt
this structural bolt is is used for applications involving tension and shear loads where light drive is permissible

Carriage Bolt
A bolt used for connecting steel, other metal members, and timber connections.

Turnbuckle
A mechanical fitting attached to the lower ends of stays, allowing for the standing rigging to be adjusted.

Quick Link
Similar to link in chain but with one end that is threaded to open and close

Shackle
Shackles are the primary connecting link in all manner of rigging systems, from boats and ships to industrial crane rigging, as they allow different rigging subsets to be connected or disconnected quickly.

Straight caster
A wheeled device typically mounted to a larger object that enables relatively easy rolling movement of the object in one back and forth direction only.

Smart/Swivel Caster
A wheeled device typically mounted to a larger object that enables relatively easy rolling movement of the object in multiple directions.

Hollywood Flat
A type of flat where the rails, toggles and stiles are flat and attached with cornerbacks and straps.

Bowline Knot
Knot used to form a loop; it is easy to tie and untie, and does not constrict.

Clove hitch knot
Knot that consists essentially of two half-hitches. Its principal use is to attach a rope to an object such as a pole or post

Prusik hitch
type of multi-wrapped friction hitch used in climbing and rigging, commonly used to attach the Prusik loop to the climbing line when footlocking

Fisherman's Knot
The fishermans knot is used for joining two fine lines such as fishing leaders. It si simply two overhand knots, one holding the right line and other left hand line. Pull each of the two overhand knots seperatly. Then make the whole knot taught so that the two overhand knots come together by pulling on the standing parts of each line.

Consists of a rope or line that is run round a wheel

Toggle Bolt
An anchor bolt having two hinged wings that close against a spring when passing through a predrilled hole and open as they emerge to the inner surface of a hollow wall.

loose pin hinge
A hinge having a removable pin so that a door can be unhung by separating two leaves

T-hinge
Used where strength is required but one facing is narrow

Brad Nails
Essentially an 18-gauge wire that's been formed into a sharpened nail. They're generally much thinner than your average finishing nail and are easily bent while being driven.

Crown Staples
The "crown" of the staple is the part that still shows after you punch a staple through the materials you are fastening together. The "legs" are perpendicular to the "crown," and parallel to each other, and they penetrate the materials.

Stage Screw
A tapered screw with a handle that resembles a corkscrew and is used to fasten stage braces to the floor

scale rule
A (usually) three-sided ruler for making scale drawings.

Speed Square
A trianglular marking tool containing both 90 and 45 degree angles. It has a flange on one side so you can "square" it against the material.

Tri Square
Used for squaring corners and measuring short distances

Steel Framing Square
Used in measuring boards, testing corners, and setting the bevel of boards and tools to various angles. It is made of steel, having two flat blades at right angles to each other an having measuring scales on every edge.

level
A device for establishing a horizontal plane. It consists of a small glass tube containing liquid and an air bubble; the tube is sealed and fixed horizontally in a wooden or metallic block or frame with a smooth lower surface.

Chalk line
A tool used in the building trades to make a straight line on a vertical surface.

plumb bob
a heavy weight that's suspended from a line that indicates vertical trueness

crow bar
An iron bar with a flattened end, used as a lever consisting of a a single curved end and flattened points, often with a small fissure on one or both ends for removing nails.

Claw hammer
A hammer with a flat striking face. the other end of the head is curved and divided into two claws to remove nails.

Ripping Hammer
A rip (straight claw) hammer is often the choice of professionals because it is usually a slightly heftier tool that is used to rip apart wood that has been nailed together.
