Hematopoiesis
The process of blood cell production.
Plasma
The liquid component of blood composed of water, proteins, hormones, and other solutes.
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells responsible for the transport of oxygen.
Leukocytes
White blood cells involved in the immune response and defense against pathogens.
Thrombocytes
Platelets that play a key role in blood clotting.
Hematocrit
The percentage of red blood cells in blood.
Hemostasis
The process of stopping bleeding or blood flow.
Anemia
A condition characterized by a decrease in red blood cells or hemoglobin.
Polycythemia
An increase in the number of red blood cells.
Leukemia
A cancer of the leukocytes characterized by an overproduction of abnormal white blood cells.
Infectious Mononucleosis
A viral infection causing symptoms like fatigue and swollen lymph nodes.
Lymphomas
Cancers affecting the lymphatic system, including Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Hemophilia A
An X-linked recessive bleeding disorder due to a deficiency of clotting factor VIII.
Idiopathic Thromocytopenia Purpura (ITP)
A condition where the immune system mistakenly destroys platelets, leading to bleeding.
Von Willebrand’s Disease
The most common hereditary bleeding disorder caused by low levels of von Willebrand factor.
Sickle Cell Anemia
A genetic disorder characterized by the production of abnormal hemoglobin, leading to distorted red blood cells.
Thrombocytopenia
A condition with a decreased platelet count, increasing the risk of bleeding.
Dendritic Cell
A type of immune cell that presents antigens to T cells to initiate an immune response.
Plasma Cell
A type of white blood cell that produces antibodies.
