“So Campbell, why don’t you go ahead and tell us about yourself?”

Of course! So, my name is Campbell Pohlman and I have been in 4-H for 12 years. I show alpaca, rabbit, dog, sewing, and other general projects. When describing myself, there are several key characteristics I think I possess.

I would describe myself as a very organized person because I am apart of many 4-H committees and activities and I have successfully navigated having all of these activities on my plate.

Serving as the vice president of Junior Fairboard has taught me a lot about taking initiative because I have organized several events and projects without anyone asking me to. One of these projects that I am currently working on is a senior 4-H project for senior 4-Hers to leave their mark on the Fairgrounds. I am inviting every senior 4-Her to a JFB workday where they can paint a small square tile that represents their experience in 4-H. My goal is to have all of these tiles displayed together in the JFB office.

Finally, I am friendly and passionate. I love to meet new people and teach them about the Warren County 4-H Program. I’ve been on many state and national 4-H trips and I’ve gotten to meet 4-Hers from all over the country. In addition to these trips, I also serve as a 4-H camp counselor and a mentor in the Animal and Me Program and I love talking with my campers and mentees and getting to know them.

Outside of 4-H I am very involved in my school and I’m apart of National Honor Society, Key Club, Tennis, Choir, and an electronic music band. I really enjoy reading, traveling, hanging out with my friends, and working at Kings Island.

Overall, I am a very dedicated 4-Her and do my best to make the best better in the Warren County 4-H program.

Why should you be chosen as the 2026 Fair Queen?

I believe that I should be chosen as the 2026 Fair Queen because I have three clear goals that I would like to accomplish through the Warren County 4-H Program.

My first goal is to promote the 4-H program to all families in Warren County. 4-H is the largest youth development program in the nation and I have learned so many life skills like interviewing with a judge, public speaking, and the value of hard work throughout my 12 years in 4-H. Currently, we have over 900 4-H families in Warren County which is a great number, but as the Warren County Fair Queen, I would like to expand this number to teach even more youth in our county about these life skills.

My second goal as the Warren County Fair Queen is to bring agricultural education to the forefront of the fair. The backbone of the fair is based on livestock and farming and it is becoming increasingly important to understand where our food comes from and the work that is put into providing this food. As the Warren County Fair Queen, I would make it my priority to teach fairgoers about the agricultural industry in Warren County to provide them with a better understanding of how important agriculture and farming is. I have already began this goal by creating a booth at the fair last year that centered around farmer’s mental health because I learned that farmers are 3.5x more likely to experience suicidal thoughts than the national average because of stress and financial instability. Fairgoers were provided with cards to write thank you notes to local farmers and I was able to distribute these to farmers in Warren County to let them know that they’re appreciated.

My last goal while serving as the Warren County Fair Queen is to introduce current 4-Hers to even more opportunities beyond the county level where they can grow their leadership skills. I have attended numerous state and national camps and trips and have met incredible 4-Hers from all over the country. I have brought back all of the leadership skills I’ve learned from these opportunities and invested them in Warren County and I think our county’s 4-H program could grow even stronger if more 4-Hers sign up for these state and national trips. I have already taken several leadership and self-determined projects promoting the Ohio Achievement Record and informing 4-Hers about different trips they can go on through filling that form out.

If I were to be selected as the Warren County Fair Queen, I would be honored to serve 4-Hers and Warren County as an advocate for agriculture and youth development.

What is one change you would like to see to the Warren County Fair?

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive who would it be?

If I could have dinner with anyone dead or alive I would choose my great-grandpa Howe. I met him several times when I was very young but he ended up passing away when I was around 6. My grandpa has told me so many stories about great-grandpa Howe and he was an incredibly interesting person. He was a WWII veteran with two Purple Hearts, won a full ride scholarship to Yale University, and was a professor at THE Ohio State University. I would love to learn about him and his incredible life from him directly which is why I would choose him to have dinner with.

Which is worse failing or never trying?

In my opinion, never trying is worse than failing. Failure does not mean that you can never overcome an obstacle, but instead teaches you how to get over it. We can learn from failure to learn how to do things differently and better. There is nothing to be learned from never trying because you will never know what will happen because you didn’t take that risk. Personally, I would regret never trying something way more than failing at it. Some opportunities only come once and it’s better to give something your all than to never attempt it.

What is your idea of success?

My idea of success is being happy with myself and know that I’ve tried my best to taken advantage of all the opportunities that have been given to me. For example, I believe that I have had a successful 12-year 4-H career because I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone while taking new projects and been a dedicated 4-Her who has given back to the Warren County 4-H Program. I think I am successful because I serve as Vice President of JFB, I’ve mentored autistic young adults in the Animal and Me Program, served as the 4-H Youth Representative of the Warren County Stakeholder Committee, and applied for 7 different 4-H trips. I have never backed down from an opportunity in 4-H which is why I would call myself a successful 4-Her.

Who is one role model in your life that you look up to?

The role model I most look up to in my life is my mother. She is one of the main reasons why I want to become a teacher because I admire her patience when she is trying to teach 1st graders how to read. I also admire how organized and prepared she is for any situation. She is able to keep her composure under a lot of pressure which is a very important skill. Finally, she is probably one of the most creative people I know. She can think of fun slogans and catchy titles for 4-H posters on a whim and that is super impressive to me. I have learned so much from her and hope to be as successful as she is as a mother to my future children.

What traits do you think are important for a queen to have?

I think that the Warren County Fair Queen should embody 3 main character traits.

The first trait is kindness. The Fair Queen should be willing to talk to anyone who is interested in the fair and be able to connect with the public, exhibitors, and other royalty from different counties.

Next, the queen should be passionate about the fair and the community she is representing. The Warren County Fair Queen should know about all of the different projects shown at the fair, the best fair food to get, and the unique parts of our 4-H program that make our fair one of the most special weeks of the year.

And finally, the queen should be a role model. When I was younger, I would look at the Warren County Fair Queen and want to be just like her. The queen should have poise and grace which gives little 4-Hers the feeling of “wow, I want to be just like her when I’m older”.

I believe that these three traits are the most important for the Warren County Fair Queen to be successful.

Would you rather have less work to do or more work that you enjoy doing?

I would much rather have more work that I enjoy doing than less work because personally, I love to stay busy and learn new things. I participate in many activities in 4-H like being a camp counselor, vice president of junior fairboard, a carteens member, food and fashion board member, and I try to take a new project every year. I stay very busy while I’m involved in all of these activities but I have met such amazing people through these committees and activities. Even though my schedule may be very full and a bit stressful at times, I would much rather make amazing friendships and do work that truly matters over having less work to do.

If you could change a decision that you've made in the past year what would it be?

14

What is the most important lesson you've learned through your time in 4-H?

15

If there were a piece of the fairgrounds that you could choose to shrink down and bring with you everywhere, what would it be?

This is a hard question for me to answer, because the Warren County Fair to me isn’t defined by the buildings and barns it is held in. The best memories of the fair that I have are about all of the friends I have made throughout my 12-year 4-H story. That being said, I would love to shrink down the lemonade stand because I have so much fun volunteering with my clubs in there and it would be nice to have a lemonade stand to carry with me whenever I wanted some. I mean, the frozen lemonade is the BEST I have ever had.

If there was one 4-H project you wish you would've taken, what would it be?

One 4-H project I wish I would’ve taken was cooking projects. I have to admit, I am not the best at cooking and really only cook when I have an exact recipe to follow. However, when I see 4-Hers who are way younger than me bringing beautiful loaves of bread and delicious meals to project judging, it makes me wish that I had learned how to cook that young because it is definitely a life skill that you will need to support yourself and your family in the future.

Why do you feel 4-H is important?

18

What is a challenge that you have faced in 4-H and how have you overcome it?

19

What is a piece of advice you would give to a young 4-H member?

I would tell a younger 4-Her to try everything they can in 4-H. Take all of the projects you can, go on as many 4-H trips as you can, and get involved with as many organizations as possible. Even though I had 12 years in 4-H, that time flew by way quicker than I ever would have expected. Don’t put off applying for a national trip or starting a new project until next year because if you keep putting it off, eventually you won’t have next year! Take advantage of all of the opportunities you can in 4-H. You’ll either have fantastic memories and improved leadership and life skills, or you’ll live the rest of your life wondering “what if I had done this?”. Don’t be afraid that you’ll be doing too much in 4-H because I truly believe that no 4-H activity is ever “too much”.

How has your involvement in 4-H influenced what you will do in the future?

What is the accomplishment in your 4-H career you are most proud of?

The accomplishment in 4-H that I am most proud of is when I won the Alpaca/Llama State Achievement Award in 2024. When I filled out the Ohio Achievement Record to apply for this award, I never would have imagined I would actually receive this award. But when I found out that I won, I was so excited! In addition to being recognized at the State Achievement Award Ceremony, I also had the opportunity to go to 4-H National Congress with other state winners. Here, I met so many 4-Hers from different states and even from territories like Puerto Rico. I got to hear about how 4-H works all across the country and shared some of my favorite Ohio 4-H activities too! Did you know that there is a whole competitive 4-H show choir in Georgia? I was able to bring back lots of ideas for Warren County and the state of Ohio, though the show choir has not happened yet but I’m still working on that lol. This is my favorite accomplishment because of my experience at National Congress and I encourage all 4-Hers to fill out the Ohio Achievement Record so that they might have the opportunity to go to National Congress too!
