Identify the left and right common carotid arteries.

These arteries supply blood to the head and neck. The left common carotid artery branches directly from the aorta, while the right arises from the brachiocephalic trunk.

Identify the two types of jugular veins, external and internal.

The external jugular veins drain the face, scalp, and superficial neck, and empty into the subclavian veins.

Internal jugular veins drain the brain, and deep parts of the face and neck, also empty into the subclavian veins.
