Cell organelle that aids in cell division in animal cells only

Found inside the nucleus and produces ribosomes

System of internal membranes within the cytoplasm. Membranes are rough due to the presence of ribosomes. functions in transport of substances such as proteins within the cytoplasm

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

An endomembrane system where lipids are synthesized, calcium levels are regulated, and toxic substances are broken down.

Cytoplasm

A jellylike fluid inside the cell in which the organelles are suspended

cell membrane

A cell structure that controls which substances can enter or leave the cell.

Golgi apparatus

A system of membranes that modifies and packages proteins for export by the cell

Mitochondria

Powerhouse of the cell, organelle that is the site of ATP (energy) production

nuclear envelope

layer of two membranes that surrounds the nucleus of a cell

Vacuole

Cell organelle that stores materials such as water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates

Prokaryotes are

single celled organisms lacking a true nucleus and nuclear membrane

Eukaryotic cells

Contain a nucleus and other organelles that are bound by membranes.
