Probability
The measure of the likelihood that an event will occur, expressed as a number between 0 and 1.
Event
A specific outcome or set of outcomes of an experiment within a sample space.
Sample Space (S)
The set of all possible outcomes of a probability experiment.
Union of Events (A ∪ B)
The event that either A, B, or both occur.
Intersection of Events (A ∩ B)
The event that both A and B occur simultaneously.
Complement of Event (A')
The event that A does not occur.
Venn Diagram
A graphical representation of sets and their relationships, often used to illustrate probabilities.
Mutually Exclusive Events
Events that cannot occur at the same time; the occurrence of one event excludes the possibility of the other.
Complement Rule
The principle stating that the probability of the complement of an event A is equal to 1 minus the probability of A.
De Morgan's Laws
Laws related to the intersection and union of sets, applicable in probability calculations involving complements.
