How many GWH does it generate, and how many swiss households does it power?

Impact of using moraines as aggregates

Moraines can be unstable, and removing them can trigger landslides, debris flows, and erosion, particularly if the moraine is ice-cored.

How is the area that the dam is built into effected?

The landscape has been drastically changed, such as the V - shaped valley being cut into. This increases mass movement of the sediment, resulting in the use of flushing, which increases flood risk. The floodwater can change the rivercourse channels, which is called undercutting. Outwash plains will also be formed due to excessive amounts of water

Effects of reduced flow in the … Borgne

Reduced flow in the Borgne River, below the dam has resulted in higher concentrations of pollutants at les haudete, from both agricultural and domestic sources

7
New cards

When the water is stored behind the dam…

The lack of flow means a loss in energy and the deposition of sediment load behind the dam at rates of 20-40 cm a year

What is channel scour?

The erosion and removal of sediment from the bed and banks of a watercourse, caused by rapidly flowing water. Increased downstream erosion
