TPR
Temperature, Pulse, Respiration - the three basic vital signs to assess in animals.
Febrile
Having a fever.
Afebrile
Not having a fever.
CRT
Capillary Refill Time - it should be less than two seconds in healthy animals.
Palpation
The act of examining by touch, often used to check pulse.
Auscultation
The act of listening to the body sounds, commonly using a stethoscope.
Speculum
An instrument used to widen an opening, often during dental or vaginal procedures.
Hematocrit
The percentage of red blood cells in the blood, also known as PCV (Packed Cell Volume).
Endoscopy
A procedure using a scope to visually examine the interior of a cavity in the body.
Radiography
The use of ionizing radiation to create images of structures inside the body.
Agglutination
A test that detects the clumping of particles, used in blood typing and other diagnostics.
Hypothermia
Abnormally low body temperature.
Hyperthermia
Abnormally high body temperature.
Doppler
A device used to measure blood pressure in animals by detecting pulses.
Sphygmomanometer
An instrument for measuring blood pressure.
Computed Tomography (CT)
A scanning technique that uses X-rays to create cross-sectional images of the body.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
A technique that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of soft tissues.
Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)
A radiographic examination of the kidneys and urinary tract after intravenous contrast injection.
Prophylactic
A procedure performed as a preventative measure.
