Assonance
the repition of a vowel sound in a sentence
Direct address
Use of second person pronouns “you” to speak directly to the audience
Enjambment
Running a sentence over two lines so a break occurss mid sentence, keeping the sentence running but breaking the rythm
Hyperbole
Emphasising the impact, or feeling of a situation by exaggerating it
Juxtaposition
Placing two things side by side to emphasise their differences
Modality
The confidence of language used. High modality is very forward and strong, while low modality is less certain
Oxymoron
When two words directly contradict each other to create a new meaning that doesn’t make complete logical sense
Paradox
Connecting two ideas that are inherently contradictory
Cognitive dissonance
Discomfort felt when actions and beliefs don’t match
Plosives
Explosive consonant sounds - “p”, “b”, “k”, “ch”, “g” - used in succession

A narrative begins and ends in the same point, including the same setting, event, imagery, or motif

Repition of a word or phrase at the end of successive sentences/clauses

The speaker poses a question and then answers it

Multiple repitions of the same conjunction (and, but, if) are used in replacement of commas
