Simple Tissues
A category of plant tissues that includes Parenchyma and Collenchyma.
Parenchyma
A simple tissue characterized by thin cell walls, large vacuoles, and intercellular air spaces, functioning as a packing tissue.
Intercellular air space
A structural feature of Parenchyma that allows for easy diffusion of substances and allows gases to pass through the tissue.
Functions of Parenchyma
Allows for easy diffusion, stores food and water, allows osmosis to occur, and acts as a packing tissue.
Collenchyma
A simple plant tissue with unevenly thickened cell walls that provides strength and support.
Development of Collenchyma cells
These cells are living initially but become dead cells later as they grow.
Structure of Parenchyma
Consists of thin cell walls, a large vacuole, a nucleus, cytoplasm, and intercellular air spaces.
Structure of Collenchyma
Features cytoplasm, a nucleus, and unevenly thickened cell walls.
Function of Collenchyma
Its primary role is to provide strength and support to the plant.
