Direct Speech
Used when we want to describe what someone said exactly as they said it
We simply repeat what someone says, putting the phrase between speech marks
Indirect / Reported Speech
Used when we want to report what someone said without using quotation marks or without using the exact same words
Change “I have a new car.” to indirect speech
Option 1 - They said they had a new car
Option 2 - They have a new car
Change Paul said he was very hungry to direct speech
Paul came in and said, “I’m really hungry.”
