Biometric authentication
An authentication mechanism that uses unique physical traits of individuals, such as fingerprints or facial recognition, to verify identity.
Biometric info
Types of personal traits used in biometric authentication, including fingerprints, retina or iris patterns, facial recognition, and voice sounds.
False negatives
Errors in biometric systems where the system does not recognize a valid user, preventing them from accessing the system.
False positives
Errors in biometric systems where the system incorrectly recognizes an unauthorized user as valid, allowing them access.
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
A strong authentication method requiring two different types of credentials for access, enhancing security beyond just passwords.
Examples of 2FA credentials
Types of credentials that can be used in two-factor authentication, such as a biometric scan combined with a PIN.
Privacy concerns
Issues raised by users regarding the intrusiveness and potential misuse of their biometric data.
Cost of biometric systems
The expense associated with setting up and maintaining biometric authentication systems, which can be higher than other methods.
Signature recognition
A form of biometric authentication that verifies a user’s identity based on their handwritten signature.
Multifactor authentication
A security system that requires more than one form of verification to gain access.
