Summary writing guidelines

style?

write in a direct, objective style, using your own word (few direct quotions, none if it is one-paragraph summary)

how to begin

begin with reference to writer (full name) and title of work and then state writer's thesis (main argument); dont include when and where published or bibliographical info

what should you not include

specific examples, illustrations, or background information/sections

how to write

keep summary parts in same balance as original, keep it concise, use strong verbs , do not make judgements about writer's style or ideas
