Chemical Reaction
A process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another.
Reactants
Substances that undergo a chemical change in a reaction.
Products
Substances formed as a result of a chemical reaction.
Balancing Chemical Equations
The process of ensuring that the number of atoms for each element is equal on both sides of the equation.
Limiting Reagent
The reactant that is completely consumed in a chemical reaction, limiting the amount of product formed.
Theoretical Yield
The maximum amount of product that can be produced from a given amount of reactants, based on stoichiometric calculations.
Actual Yield
The quantity of product that is obtained from an experiment.
Percent Yield
A measure of the efficiency of a reaction, calculated as (actual yield/theoretical yield) x 100.
Stoichiometry
The calculation of reactants and products in chemical reactions.
Combustion Reaction
A type of reaction that involves oxygen and typically produces heat, light, carbon dioxide, and water.
Dissolution
The process in which a substance dissolves in a solvent, resulting in a homogeneous mixture.
Combination Reaction
A chemical reaction in which two or more substances combine to form a single product.
Decomposition Reaction
A reaction in which a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler products.
Aqueous Solution
A solution in which water is the solvent.
Molar Relationship
The relationship between the quantities of reactants and products in a balanced chemical equation.
Mass Relationship
The relationship between the masses of reactants and products in a chemical reaction.
